HVAC/R Technician
WMM is a locally-owned and operated company that specializes in commercial and residential HVAC and commercial refrigeration. We are growing fast and looking for high-caliber technicians to keep up with demand.
Service Area: Mid-Shore (Talbot, Queen Anne’s, Kent, Caroline, Dorchester)
Job Type: Full-Time. Must be available to work on nights and weekends when necessary.
Pay Range: $50,000- $80,000 annually (Hourly base + Overtime + Bonuses)
Benefits:
All-In-One PTO (Paid Time Off): We know that a career in commercial HVAC/R is demanding. We provide a unified PTO bank for vacation, personal time, or illness. You begin earning on Day 1, with hours available for use after a 90-day introductory period.
Years 1–3: Earn 1 hour for every 26 hours worked (approx. 10 days/year).
Years 3–6: Accrual increases to approx. 13 days/year.
Years 6+: Accrual increases to approx. 16 days/year.
Sick & Safe Leave: In accordance with the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act, we provide unpaid “Sick and Safe” leave for illness or emergencies. This leave begins accruing on your first day of employment.
Flexibility: We honor pre-planned travel discussed during your interview. For emergencies during your first 90 days, unpaid leave is available to ensure you can take care of your family.
High-Volume Seasons: To ensure we provide top-tier service to our customers during peak cooling and heating months, we typically have “blackout dates” for extended PTO during [e.g., May–October and December–February]. While extended vacations are restricted during these peaks, we remain flexible for short-term needs or emergencies. We encourage our team to use their PTO during the “shoulder seasons” for longer trips and recharge time.
Paid Holidays: New Year’s, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
On-Call & Emergency Service: We specialize in mission-critical commercial refrigeration and HVAC. Since our clients rely on us 24/7, we share the responsibility of emergency service fairly.
Predictable Rotation: With a small team, on-call is typically split one week on, two weeks off. We provide a clear schedule in advance so you can plan your personal life.
On-Call Bonus: You receive a $100 weekly stipend just for being on standby, regardless of whether a call comes in.
Overtime is paid at time and a half (1.5x) for all hours worked over 40, and (2x) for work over 60 hours.
Healthcare Support: A monthly healthcare stipend to assist with the cost of your personal or family health insurance plan.
Performance Rewards: An annual bonus based on individual performance, reliability, and company success.
Uniform Stipend: We provide company shirts and will reimburse the cost of additional uniform items (jeans, boots, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
Service Vehicle: We provide a take-home service vehicle fully stocked with all necessary tools and supplies. From high-end diagnostic meters and probes to power tools and hand tools, we provide everything you need to do the job right. No personal tool investment is required.
Professional Development & Licensing: We cover 100% of the costs for your Maryland HVACR license renewals (Apprentice, Journeyman, or Master).

Position Overview
Wye Mills Mechanical is seeking a skilled and dedicated HVAC/R Technician to join our growing team. As a core member of our service department, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and complex repair of heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems for both residential and commercial clients. We pride ourselves on providing top-tier technical expertise and honest, reliable service to our community.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair diverse HVAC/R systems, including split systems, heat pumps, gas furnaces, boilers, and commercial refrigeration units (reach-ins, walk-ins, and ice machines).
Installation: Perform high-quality installations and change-outs according to local codes and manufacturer specifications.
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct thorough inspections and tune-ups to ensure system efficiency and longevity.
Refrigeration Mastery: Handle refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging in strict accordance with EPA regulations.
Customer Service: Communicate technical issues clearly to customers, providing honest recommendations and building long-term trust.
Mentorship: Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior apprentices to help maintain Wye Mills Mechanical’s standards of excellence.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of hands-on experience in HVAC/R service and repair.
Licensing: Maryland Journeyman HVAC/R license is preferred, but not required.
Certifications: EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of electrical schematics, airflow dynamics, and refrigeration cycles.
Background & Driving: Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report (MVR). Since our technicians work in private homes and secure commercial facilities, your professional history and driving safety are critical.
Physical Ability: Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces (crawl spaces/attics) or varying weather conditions.
Preferred Skills
Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or smart thermostats.NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification.
Knowledge of local Wye Mills/Eastern Shore building codes.
We will teach the correct individual to install and service residential HVAC equipment as well as commercial HVAC/R and Refrigeration systems.
